The White Doe Inn has been welcoming guests since the turn-of-the-century.
As one of the most photographed homes on the island, visitors have for years
admired its beautiful architectural details and fancied a brief stay in this lovely old
home. In 1994 the house underwent renovation in the Queen Anne-style sympathetic to its
uniqueness and became The White Doe Inn Bed & Breakfast. Every effort was
made to retain the charm and character of its 100 years of history.
The Inn harkens back to a time when guests were pampered. Today, Innkeepers Bebe and Bob
Woody make every effort to recapture that era of traveler comfort and camaraderie. All
bedchambers are decorated with turn-of-the-century antiques, reproductions and special
architectural features and appointments that compliment each room's decor. Bedside
fireplaces, queen-size beds, whirlpools, central air and private baths create a
comfortable, intimate ambiance. For added enjoyment the Inn provides its own plush bath
robes and fine Egyptian cotton linens.
In the mornings guests awaken to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and
breakfast sausages or smoked bacon sizzling on the griddle. Following these
aromas to the dining room and veranda guests find an incredible Three-Course Breakfast
awaiting; a great send off for a day of touring Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks.
Afternoon Tea, Coffee & Desserts welcome our guests as they return to the Inn after a
fun-filled adventurous day. The wrap-around porch, veranda, and gardens beckon guests to
slowdown and enjoy the quiet breezes and easy conversation while relaxing and recharging
their energies before heading out for an evening of fine dining or entertainment.
In 1982, The White Doe Inn, previously known as the Theodore Meekins House, was listed on The
National Register of Historic Places because of its architectural
significance. It has been awarded a Three Diamond Rating by AAA for its
excellence in hospitality services and outstanding accommodations. Innkeepers Bebe and Bob
Woody continue to make improvements. It is their desire that "guests
staying at The White Doe Inn experience a refreshing change of pace and an experience of
which memories are made."
