Hacienda Style Accommodations on the Historic Turquoise Trail
Aliento is a Spanish word meaning "breath
of life" or life energy. This beautiful ten acre property with its gracious New
Mexico style adobe hacienda gives you plenty of room to breathe. The
grounds are lovely, featuring large ancient cottonwood and elm trees as well as some fruit
trees. There is an arroyo which winds through the property providing the perfect bridle or
hiking path. A spacious courtyard with a fountain provides a great place to relax, read or
even nap!
Aliento is a sprawling authentic
adobe hacienda with a castle-like tower. This Casa Grande (hacienda or
main house) hosts over 3500 square feet, including the guest accommodations, a common
living/dining area and full kitchen. The interior of this one hundred plus year old adobe
home features saltillo tile floors with oriental rugs, exposed vigas, kiva fireplaces and
rustic Santa Fe style furnishings.
A conference room is available for meetings of up to twelve.
The hacienda has three bedrooms plus two suites with kitchens. Each room/suite is decorated in a different style of its own. There are lovely portals (covered porches) all around the central courtyard and buildings, creating the ambiance that is "Santa Fe - the city different |

Through arched, carved, inlaid doors, guests have access to the main hacienda (house) for enjoyment of the "common" area. This includes the living room to relax around the television with a VCR, bookshelves stocked with lots of area information or a book to get lost in, all nested around a corner kiva fireplace.
Off of the dining room is the kitchen which has the feel and look of days gone by. The original vigas and handhewn latilla boards compliment the custom cedar cabinets and underline the warm feeling of this room. A large window over the sink looks out into the main courtyard. The kitchen has all the conveniences, a stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee grinder and coffee maker, toaster and of course a dishwasher.
We stock it with breakfast
goodies for you to partake whenever
you desire.
Aliento is owned and operated by Norm & Ruth Dobbins, nationally and internationally recognized glass artists and instructors in glass art techniques. In addition to B&B style short term accommodations, a separate building houses a working glass studio, glass gallery and classroom facilities. Art glass of different types is shown in the gallery and in the hacienda.
We are located twenty minutes south of the center of Santa Fe, and only a few minutes north of the historic mining towns of Cerrillos and Madrid on State Highway 14 - The Turquoise Trail. Madrid has become an artists colony with a number of shops, galleries and boutiques. Five minutes west is the Eaves Movie Ranch and Bonanza Creek Ranch, sites where many TV and movie westerns have been filmed, including Silverado, Buffalo Girls, Wyatt Earp, and more. The Eaves Movie Ranch is open to the public and features tours, western "shootouts" and more. Golf, hiking, fishing, and horseback riding are also nearby. El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, a living history museum, is fifteen minutes west. The home, personal gallery and foundry of world famous Alan Houser is fifteen minutes south-east. The historic town of Galisteo, home of the late Burl Ives and current home of the Light Institute (made famous by Shirley MacLaine) is twenty five minutes southeast.
If you are looking for a bed & breakfast (or vacation rental) where you can be independent, have a private entrance to your own cozy room, breakfast at your leisure with something from our fully stocked kitchen or maybe just coffee in your room ... then Aliento is the perfect escape for you!!
