Welcome to the Sun and Cricket Bed and Breakfast, located on a hidden 35-acre estate within 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The solitude of this very special place extends to your accommodations: a private, three-room log cabin or a spacious carriage house. |
We specialize in romantic getaways, providing solitude, quiet and serenity for people who enjoy nature and want luxurious comfort in their own private retreat. But we also are ideal for business travelers who want something a little different from the ordinary. Ours is a most unusual B&B in that we offer two suites with their own porches and entrances, surrounded by acres of fields and forests filled with century-old cherry, oak and maple trees.
A 200-year-old bank barn provides stalls for up to five horses and is surrounded by acres of fields and forests filled with century-old cherry, oak and maple trees.
The solitude of this very
special place extends to
your accommodations:
A charming carriage house with folk art, quilts and primitive antiques or a private, three-room log cabin with modern amenities and colorful Adirondack decor.
Walk or ski miles of trails, refreshed by a creative, gourmet breakfast,
or pull out binoculars for birdwatching and wildlife sighting. Bring your own horse to
ride; we have box stalls and grass pasture for guest mounts.
Browse the many antique stores in the area or venture 30 minutes away to Pittsburgh,
one of the most interesting cities in the United States, for a memorable
day of activities. Dine in some of the finest restaurants. Or just relax, read a book,
soak up the quiet and do as little as possible.
At night you may bed down in one of two suites.
|
The log cabin suite has several rooms: a living room with fireplace, a library and atrium, and a loft bedroom with a king-size bed -- all decorated in a rustic, Adirondack style. |
|
For an additional fee, guests traveling with children can rent the lower level of the log cabin, which offers a bedroom with two twin beds and a private bathroom with tub/shower, sink and toilet.
|
The carriage house -- a large, airy room with folk art and handstitched quilts -- features a sitting area with vaulted ceiling and skylight and a cozy bedroom area with a pencil-post, queen-size bed. |
In the morning, awake to a three-course breakfast that changes depending on the harvest in our garden.
To complete your stay, we offer a three-course breakfast that mines the bounty of our own vegetable/herb gardens and orchards while tapping the resources of local smokehouses, wineries, mills, farms and farm markets. Log cabin guests dine at a harvest table in the cabins library, while carriage-house guests have a special room all to themselves in the main house. If weather permits, guests may dine al fresco by the pool. We also accommodate special diets, be they vegetarian, low-carb, wheat/gluten free or dairy free.
